Aberdares National Park is home to the best hiking trails in Kenya. Aberdare trails are good preparation hikes, particularly if one plans to climb Mount. The Aberdare Ranges Hiking Tour can be combined with our Laikipia Wildlife Safari. Aberdare National Park is one of Kenya’s prime protected areas.This is an excellent day hike that travels through the exquisite bamboo forest. The trail covers a distance of 11 miles (17.70 km) while ascending to the summit.
5 DAYS:ABERDARES TREK – ENTRY VIA TREE TOPS GATE & EXIT THROUGH WANDERI’S GATE
DAY 1:NAIROBI TO ABERDARES FISHING LODGE CAMPSITE
You will be picked from your hotel / residence in Nairobi by private transport to Nyeri town where you will link up with the porters and the guide. After registration at the park headquarters, drive through Treetops gate for 45km to reach the Reedbuck Campsite.<br><br>
The drive through the salient area is worth the while and animals that can be found include elephant, buffalo, black rhino, leopard, baboon, black, white colobus and sykes monkeys. Rarer sightings include those of the golden cat and bongo, an elusive antelope that lives in the bamboo forest. Eland and serval cats can be found higher up in the moorlands. Birdwatching is very good here with over 250 species of birds in the park, including the Jackson’s francolin, sunbirds and plovers. The birds of prey are of particular interest and include African goshawks, ayres’ hawk eagles, rufous-breasted sparrow hawk and mountain buzzards.
You will get at the campsite at 2pm and then walk to the Karuru waterfalls. This is a 4hr walk and it’s worth every step. The Karuru and Gura waterfalls are amazing. Spend the afternoon accompanied by an armed ranger as you visit the waterfalls and also included is the Queens Cave waterfalls. Dinner and overnight at the Reedback campsite.

DAY 2:ABERDARES FISHING LODGE CAMPSITE TO HONI RIVER CAMPSITE
After breakfast, trek through moorland, viewing high altitude plant life. Elephants, lions, buffaloes, antelopes and various bird species can be encountered as you proceed towards Honi River campsite for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3:HONI RIVER CAMPSITE TO WANDERIS ROADHEAD CAMPSITE
Another beautiful morning. After breakfast, hike through the Hagenia forest to Wanderi’s Roadhead campsite. This is a relatively short day. You will be at the campsite for hot lunch. In the late afternoon, visit the water hole and later be back at the camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4:WANDERIS ROADHEAD CAMPSITE TO SATIMA PEAK
Wake up at 5.30am, have coffee and biscuits and start trekking before sunrise. Hike to the top of Satima peak (4,001m) which is the highest point in the Aberdare’s overlooking the great rift valley. This walk, at well over 3000m high moorland, characterise the Aberdare National Park, with wonderful views of the Dragon’s Teeth to the west and Mt. Kenya to the east. Later descend to the campsite for breakfast and lunch. Break camp and hike down to the forest campsite. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

DAY 5:BACK TO NAIROBI
After breakfast walk down to meet the vehicle off the mountain via Wanderis Gate and then proceed back to Nairobi and arrive by 4.00pm.
